Scott Haggard Named Spokesperson for Non-Profits
County Western Music Artist Scott Haggard is joining forces with Las Vegas non-profits Horses4Heroes and Rockin’ for the Warriors. Scott has deep ties to the military and country music.
Horses4Heroes, one of the most successful equestrian support groups for the military, and Rockin’ for the Warriors, which is hosting and promoting special events to raise funds to provide charitable and educational support to U.S. troops and veterans, has named country singer and recording artist Scott Haggard as the national spokesperson for the two Las Vegas-based non-profits, it was recently announced.
Scott’s first appearance in support of Horses4Heroes and Rockin’ for the Warriors will be in Las Vegas on Jan. 3, during a fund-raiser at the Fremont Street Experience. Funds raised will benefit Operation Free Ride, a national initiative to introduce veterans and their families to the benefits of horses and horseback riding. Since the launch of Operation Free Ride on May 19, more than 3,000 have registered for their “free ride” via www.operationfreeride.com. Horses4Heroes’ Operation Free Ride is the largest collaboration of equestrian organizations and breed associations, uniting in support of the nation’s troops, veterans, and families.
“Scott is a huge supporter for causes that help our veterans, service personnel, troops and their families,” said John Grip, president and founder of Rockin’ for the Warriors. “We are very pleased that Scott and his wife, Vicki, have joined our team. As the step-son of an Air Force navigator and Vietnam veteran and the son of country music legend, Merle Haggard, Scott is the perfect artist to help educate and spread the word about what is needed for our heroes and their families.”
Alabama native Scott Haggard, 44, is building a reputation as one of the greatest voices in country music with a haunting resemblance to his father, the ultimate stylist, Merle Haggard. Both share the same raw, forlorn quality that is essential to the interpretation of traditional country themes, conveying the deepest emotion of every lyric. His life and his career are tightly woven into the fabric of country music history and lore. He is both legacy and legend with an unmistakable voice and a captivating style.
In May of 2008, he won the Horizon Award from the Mobile Alabama Country Music Association. This vote of confidence earned Scott some important show dates and guest appearances. To date, Scott has headlined with Mark Wills, Jeff Bates, Charlie McCoy, and many other notables in country music. He also has performed at Robert’s Western World, Music City Bar and Grill, and The Nashville Palace in Nashville Tennessee. Scott emerged from the significant shadow of his father to create his own artistic identity. He wrote and recorded his own composition “Living In The Shadow Of Merle,” which was released on his debut CD, recorded in Nashville earlier this year. Scott is currently residing in Las Vegas while working on his new CD, “Back to Basics,” scheduled to be released in 2013.
